How long do extensions last?

It depends on the type of extensions you get, tape-in needs to be re-installed (moved up) every 4-6 weeks, beaded extensions require maintenance every 6-8 weeks, and fusion requires maintenance every 10-12 weeks.

Do you offer halo-weft extensions?

It is a weft of hair in 3-5" lengths that are secured to the crown using a beaded method. This type of extension service is very popular.

Is it okay to brush my hair at the root if I have hair extensions?

Yes, it is encouraged to gently brush your hair from the root at least twice daily help reduce matting.

Is it okay to swim if i have hair extensions?

It is not recommended to do a lot of swimming. The chemicals in the pool are very drying to extensions and can cause matting, which in turn leads to having to replace the hair extensions more often.

My scalp feels itchy a few weeks after the installation of my hair extensions, how come?

Many factors can contribute to itching, more often this can be from product build-up. Even though we send you home with the best products, if it is not rinsed thoroughly from the scalp (this can be achieved by pulling apart the extensions and fully allowing water to fully rinse the root area) it sits on the surface and causes irritation, and can also be seen as white flakes. Wash your hair thoroughly and fully rinse at the root.

Holy Fire Reiki is a new way of performing Reiki services from the traditional way of Reiki. Founded by William Rand, and using traditional Usui methods along with sacred symbols, Holy Fire Reiki has become a very effective way of channeling Universal life force energy for healing.

Will this cure me?

We are not Doctors, so we do not diagnose, or prescribe any sort of treatments to cure any disease. We cannot guarantee cures. However, we can assist you in removing energetic blockages within your energy centres that may be holding you back from receiving the fullest healing benefits from any treatments you may be currently receiving.

Is this like a massage?

Most Holy Fire Reiki is done with minimal touch. We may intermittently place our hands on a Guest during a treatment. This is not a massage service.

What are gel nails?

Gel Nails are a type of nail enhancement that improves the durability and strength of your natural nails, as well as added protection. You can get any length of gel nails because our technicians sculpt nails to your own. We do not use tips.

Are gel nails harmful to my natural nails?

No. We carefully prep your natural nail to ensure your nail stays in great shape, which means there is no over-filing involved. If you have naturally thin and flexible nails, after you have gel nails removed you may not be used to how your nails feel. The only harm done to nails is when an enhancement is picked, chewed or broken off.

What is the difference between gel nails and gel polish?

Gel Nails add durability, strength and sometimes length to your natural nails, whereas gel polish lasts 7-14 days.

Can I get gel polish on my gel nails?

Absolutely! Most clients prefer having a gel polish color on top of their gel nail fill.

Why do some of my gel nails pop off?

There are many reasons why a nail enhancement can sometimes pop off. A nail technician may not be properly prepping the nail plate, or the cuticles may not be pushed back far enough, so when the product is placed over the top that will cause issues after a few days of having your nails put on.

If you haven't had any problems in a very long time, then all of a sudden you seem to be losing nails, and they don't seem to stay on, stress or a hormonal imbalance may be triggering this change, and in this case, it is recommended to see a doctor.

Gel nails are meant to be flexible, so if they are damaged more than likely an air bubble will result. If the nail is hit a few more times it will more than likely come off.

Ultimately we cannot control what you do with your nails when you leave the salon, if you are rough with your nails such as scraping off labels from things and banging them against hard objects no one can guarantee how long they will last.

Thankfully we also carry a Polygel product, which give the strength of acrylic matched with the flexibility of nails. Many of our guests who have problems with lifting nails have had great success with our Polygel.

Why do I get chipping in the corners of my nails?

Chipping in the corners of the nails may be because there is not enough product on the tip of the nail, which means it is not as strong.

It could be from using your nails as tools, such as scraping things off surfaces.

If your nails are dehydrated, as they start to grow they may curl away from the enhancement creating a weak spot, in this case, it recommended using cuticle oil at least once daily to give your nails the extra nutrients they need to be as healthy as possible.

What is a dry manicure?

A dry manicure, is a manicure performed without soaking the nails in water. We use an e-file safely to smooth any calluses on your hands, then we do a hand massage. The nail plate is porous, so water absorbs into it, which can affect how long your manicure stays. The dry manicure helps to ensure your manicure and gel polish manicure stays for longer.

Why would I experience lifting on my gel polish manicure?

We always say nails are jewels, not tools. Being cautious as to what you are doing with your nails is critical to ensure they last the longest. However, sometimes dehydration can be a contributing factor to the edges chipping. Reason being, is if your hands are in water consistently, your nail plate absorbs the water then it dries out, so the nail can pull away from the enhancement, or if you have not been drinking enough water that can also be a big contributing factor to the natural nail pulling away from your polish.

Do you use jetted tubs for your pedicures?

We would love to use jetted tubs for our pedicures! However, because of the lengthy time required to properly clean the hoses inside of the tub in between clients, it is safer and cleaner to use a lined basin. We ensure your experience at Diztinctive Beauty will still be a comfortable and relaxing one!

If I have a toenail that is not normal can you fix that?

Yes! We carry an array of products to help you with runners toes, or provide extra length just in case one has broken.

How long does a lash lift last?

A lash lift and tint last 4-6 weeks. This is a great alternative to eyelash extensions if you don't want to commit to fills every 3 weeks.

How dramatic will my results be?

The longer your natural lashes, the more dramatic your lash lift will look.

How long does a lash lift and tint take?

A lash lift and tint take 4 steps to complete, so prepare yourself to be laying down for an hour.

Is a lash lift safe for my eyes?

Health Canada recently banned the use of Sodium Bromate in lash lift formulas. We now use a sodium bromate-free formula by Refectocil. Alberta Health Services and Health Canada are always working diligently to ensure the products we use are safe for us to use, and perform services on our guests.

How long does my hair need to be to get waxed?

Hair needs to be at least 1/4"-1/2" of growth, which translates to about 4-6 weeks of growth

How often should I go in between appointments?

Every 5-6 weeks is ideal to ensure you have enough hair growth in between sessions.

What do you mean by double-dipping?

Double dipping is a term that means reusing a wax stick.

Why should I worry about double dipping?

Wax pots do not go past the boiling point, therefore there is no way to sanitize wax. As a safety pre-caution every wax stick that is used must be disposed of to ensure your safety, prevent diseases or infections from spreading. Once a wax stick touches bare skin, it is no longer clean, and is required by Health Standards to be disposed of once used.
